Preparations for this year’s Academic Conference is wrapping up now. We have received a record number of 125 abstracts this year! Prof. Zuna of the scientific committee had the arduous task of selecting  only 24 abstracts to be presented as lectures for the event. This year the lectures are divided roughly into monothematic units. Out of the total contributions, it is clear that through this approach, there will be exceptionally high-quality poster contributions. Presentations of the individual sections – in lecture and poster form – were taken upon by the young and slightly older postgraduates of our faculty. Take the opportunity to have a look at the selected posters, along with the Chairs and listen to the discussions between them and the presenting authors.

We have invited as guest speakers,  Dr. Victor Černý from the Archaeological Institute of the ASCR and Prof. Stanislav Komárek of the Faculty of Science. Dr. Černý will talk about archeo-genetics, and tell us how molecular genetics helped to reveal the archaeological secrets - such as patterns of migration of nations. Naturalist and philosopher Dr. Komarek will think about the changes and what we believe in the modern world.

We will also have the young stars of our science faculty: Gynecologist Dr. Halaška, Transplantologists Assoc. Dr. Sedlacek and Assoc. Dr. Seeman , Molecular Microbiologist/Pediatrician Dr. Dřevínek. For all program details, visit here.

If you expect  more than just lectures from the Scientific conference, then you will not be disappointed this year. Author readings will be presented from three classmates of the Mathematics and Physics faculty of Charles University, but that's more than how math or physics extend to literature. The section entitled "Two Poets and a writer of Math/Physics," will be presented by Vit Janota, Igor Malijevský and Charles Marten. Everyone has already released this book, some of them reached significant formal awards - and especially their live readings are always a peculiar experience!

But the program doesn’t end there - there is of course the traditional Motol mile organized by the Institute of Physical Education and Motolák. Its variable length is already known, so let also this year be a surprise.  Please click here for details:  Register.

Those who are also looking forward to something other than the conference can also attend the Final Merry party. Club Dr. Vojak will be the venue on the final day of the conference and all are welcome to come. Those who attend the conference and the party will be able to benefit (like last year) from  the tickets that will be issued by attentive listeners at the end of each section. Just like last year,  attendees will be tested on questions from the conference. So, make sure you pay attention! Prizes will be distributed, including the first prize which will be a purple iPod Nano (16GB). There will also be the opportunity to purchase conference T-Shirts which will be adorned with the logo of our great faculty of medicine!

The Conference starts on Wednesday 7. 4.2010 at 10:30 am, in which all classes will be cancelled after 10:00am. so that students and teachers alike may be able to participate. We look forward to seeing you there!
